Take it step by step
Encouragement for the journey
Becoming Muslim is a big change, and it is normal to feel overwhelmed, lonely or unsure at times. Here are some things to remember.
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if they are small.”
The Prophet ﷺ, Sahih al-Bukhari 6464
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
Quran 94:6
“Make things easy and do not make them difficult. Give good news and do not drive people away.”
The Prophet ﷺ, Sahih al-Bukhari 69
Practical advice
- Prioritise: the prayer first, then add one habit at a time.
- Find community. Visit a local mosque, ask about new Muslim classes, and get to know people who can support you.
- Learn from reliable teachers, and be wary of anyone who makes the religion feel harsh or complicated.
- Be patient with yourself. Your faith will grow over months and years, not days.
- Make dua in your own words. Allah is always near and hears you.
